Salary: USD 82,400 - 103,000 / annual
Rocket Lab is seeking an Electrical Engineer I to join the avionics design engineering team in Long Beach, CA. You will participate in the development and test of avionics hardware for spacecraft programs, working collaboratively across engineering disciplines on all aspects of electrical hardware development—from requirements definition through design, prototyping, fabrication, testing, and production. As part of the spacecraft development team, you will have frequent opportunities to test and operate your systems on orbit.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop PCBA (printed circuit board assembly) requirements in collaboration with other engineering disciplines
- Perform schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer
- Conduct circuit analysis, including power, tolerance, and reliability assessments
- Execute PCBA design verification testing and system integration testing
- Provide production manufacturing support as needed
Rocket Lab's Space Systems team has enabled more than 1,700 missions, ranging from interplanetary exploration and in-space manufacturing to national security and defense initiatives. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or other engineering discipline
- Strong background in analog electronics design
- Proficiency performing circuit analyses in SPICE and Excel
- U.S. citizenship required due to program requirements (ITAR compliance)
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
- Master's degree in electrical or computer engineering
- Proficiency with basic electronic lab equipment (power supplies, oscilloscopes, DMMs, signal generators, soldering irons)
- Experience designing for space environments, including radiation impacts and mitigation
- Experience in designing high-reliability aerospace applications
- Experience designing rigid-flex PCBs and electromechanical design familiarity
- Experience with FPGA design and embedded software development for ARM core processors
- Demonstrated success working in dynamic environments and managing competing priorities
