Star Catcher is building the first energy grid in space to power the orbital economy. The company is developing technology to wirelessly beam energy to spacecraft's existing solar panels, enabling spacecraft to "plug into" a grid rather than generating all their own power. This role supports the development of space-to-space power beaming spacecraft and the Star Catcher Network orbital power grid. As an Electrical Engineer - FPGA Firmware, you will design and verify FPGA gateware (VHDL/Verilog) for control loops and signal processing under established architecture. Key responsibilities include: - Design and verify FPGA gateware (VHDL/Verilog) for control loops and signal processing - Utilize, implement, and validate algorithms in FPGAs and firmware - Support simulation, verification, and hardware-in-the-loop testing of FPGA designs - Develop high-level and detailed verification test plans consistent with system requirements - Perform detailed analysis including requirements analysis, component synthesis, timing, and clock domain crossings - Prepare and participate in design and implementation reviews - Collaborate with digital hardware and embedded software engineers on interface definition - Support qualification of FPGA/SoC platforms for flight applications This is an early-stage opportunity to join a team building new space infrastructure at scale. REQUIREMENTS: - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical discipline - 5+ years of experience designing and verifying FPGA gateware in VHDL or Verilog - Familiarity with FPGA/SoC design toolchains (synthesis, place-and-route, timing closure) - Working knowledge of logic simulation tools (ModelSim/Questa or equivalent) with experience developing self-checking testbenches, assertions/checkers, and automated regression tests - Experience using Git or equivalent version control for RTL, constraints, testbenches, and reproducible build configurations - Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or eligible to obtain ITAR authorizations DESIRED SKILLS: - Experience with verification frameworks (UVM/SystemVerilog, OSVVM/UVVM, cocotb) - Real-time control loops in reconfigurable logic - Radiation-tolerant or space-qualified FPGA/SoC platforms - DSP or signal-processing in FPGA fabric - Spacecraft communications protocols (CCSDS: AOS, EPP, TM/TC, SPP) - Signal processing for RF communications systems - Standard streaming and memory-mapped interfaces (AMBA AXI, Avalon) - Digital hardware interfaces (NAND/NOR/DDR memory, GigE/10GigE, SERDES, LVDS/RS-422/I2C/SPI) - MATLAB/Simulink experience - Manufacturing, assembly, and test processes knowledge
