SpaceX is seeking an Electrical Engineer for Energy & Generation to join the Construction Projects team at the McGregor Rocket Development Facility. This role focuses on designing, building, and activating power infrastructure that supports SpaceX's long-term mission.
Key responsibilities include leading the engineering and construction of temporary and permanent power generation plants (gas/diesel generators, gas turbines, solar arrays, hybrid systems) to meet facility energy demands and reduce peak grid impacts. You will oversee build and commissioning of power generation infrastructure, coordinating with construction teams to ensure safe, efficient installation and integration with existing site power distribution and utility feeds.
You will develop maintenance programs for power systems, including predictive maintenance schedules, performance monitoring, and upgrades to enhance reliability. The role requires performing detailed power system analyses, including load forecasting, energy modeling, and optimization for cost and efficiency in a high-demand manufacturing environment.
Collaboration with utility providers is essential to negotiate and implement grid interconnections while designing resilient on-site generation to minimize downtime. You will conduct hands-on troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs on power generation equipment, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
Additional responsibilities include driving innovation in sustainable power solutions (energy storage, renewable sources), developing long-term facility load ramps with site personnel to determine power needs across buildings and product teams, and supporting overall facility power strategy through risk management, budgeting, and performance reporting.
Basic qualifications: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related discipline; 3+ years of experience in electrical engineering with focus on power generation design, construction, or maintenance.
Preferred qualifications: 5+ years in industrial/manufacturing facility electrical engineering (aerospace, telecom, high-tech); experience with utility providers for grid connections; proficiency in electrical design software (AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, SKM PowerTools); knowledge of power generation systems; expertise in hybrid power systems and microgrids; PE license in Texas or eligibility; familiarity with sustainable energy practices; strong project management skills; ability to work in fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
The role requires onsite presence at McGregor facility with travel as needed, extended hours/weekends flexibility, physical ability to work in various environments, valid driver's license, and ability to lift up to 25 lbs. ITAR compliance required (U.S. citizen, green card holder, refugee, or asylee status).
