Root Access is a frontier electronics company based in NYC, funded by top hardware investors, building AI-era electronics. The team spans electrical, firmware, software, and machine learning disciplines.
You will own the design of electronic hardware from concept through prototype and into production, working alongside the cofounder/CTO who holds 7 electronics patents. This role bridges requirements into schematics, circuits, and manufacturable PCBs, with oversight through verification and test.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits from specifications
- Produce schematic capture and drive PCB layout (directly or with layout engineers), managing component selection, footprints, and BOMs
- Develop circuit simulation and analysis (SPICE) covering power, signal integrity, timing, and thermal considerations
- Design power supplies, sensor interfaces, communication interfaces (I²C, SPI, UART, USB, Ethernet), and microcontroller/processor subsystems
- Bring up and debug prototypes in the lab using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and bench equipment
- Collaborate with firmware, mechanical, verification, and test engineers throughout development
- Prepare design documentation, review packages, and support DFM and cost reduction
- Support compliance activities (EMC/EMI, safety, regulatory) as designs mature
Required: Bachelor's in EE or equivalent; 3+ years hands-on circuit and PCB design; proficiency with schematic/PCB tools (Altium, Cadence, KiCad); solid analog/digital fundamentals, power electronics, high-speed design; comfortable debugging with lab instrumentation.
Preferred: Master's in EE; Ansys HFSS/SIwave/Icepak/CST; full product lifecycle to volume production; signal/power integrity analysis tools; Python scripting; EMC/regulatory compliance exposure.
