EON is building a high-throughput point-to-point data transport network in Medium Earth Orbit using free-space laser links to move petabytes of data between any two points on Earth. The company recently closed a $10.75M seed round led by Andreessen Horowitz and General Catalyst and is operating out of its R&D center in Culver City, CA. As an Electrical Engineer, you will design and bring up electronics across EON's terminal and payload hardware, owning boards from schematic through validated hardware. The role spans three primary concentrations: (1) Board-Level & Bring-Up—designing driver electronics (laser drivers, EDFA pump drivers, TEC controllers), photodetector readout, control boards, and harnessing; (2) Modem & High-Speed Mixed-Signal—owning the high-speed signal chain under the coherent transceiver, including ADC/DAC interfaces, low-jitter clocking, multi-Gbaud modem boards, and FPGA gateware; and (3) Spaceflight/Payload Hardware—taking opto-electronic boards from bench-grade to space-qualified flight hardware with EEE parts selection, derating, radiation tolerance, and qualification campaigns. Key responsibilities include defining electrical interfaces with optical subsystems, selecting and qualifying components, characterizing and debugging at the bench across electrical-optical-software boundaries, supporting integration and test, and documenting designs and procedures. You will work hands-on with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and lab instrumentation in a seed-stage environment with no program office—your boards will sit under lasers, amplifiers, detectors, and eventually a payload in orbit. Required qualifications: Bachelor's or advanced degree in electrical engineering; board-level design experience (schematic and PCB layout); hands-on bring-up and debug depth; analog and mixed-signal fundamentals; proficiency with professional EDA tools (Altium, KiCad, Cadence, or equivalent); comfort moving fast without complete data. Preferred experience includes driver electronics for optical components, photodetector/low-noise sensor readout, high-speed design (multi-GHz, SerDes, SI/PI), FPGA development (Verilog/VHDL), space-qualified electronics, environmental qualification, power architecture, and test automation (Python/MATLAB). This is a hands-on role at a venture-backed space company where your work directly impacts a Tbps-class orbital link from inception.
