AEVEX is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer 3 to design, develop, and maintain electrical systems for unmanned systems (UAVs, UGVs, USVs) used in military, industrial, commercial, and consumer applications. This is a senior individual contributor role with mentorship and team leadership responsibilities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and develop electrical systems, avionics, battery/power subsystems, radio communication systems, navigation, and computer vision systems
- Design and review PCBs from schematic through layout
- Work with embedded systems (microcontrollers, FPGAs, single-board computers) and RF links
- Develop and maintain electrical control systems including wiring diagrams and schematics
- Analyze technical data and ensure compliance with military standards for reliability and safety
- Lead and collaborate with teams of engineers, technicians, and clients to resolve technical issues
- Oversee installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems
- Provide technical support to production staff and troubleshoot electrical problems
- Lead customer-funded efforts and support transition to production
- Develop and implement quality control processes
- Support flight test operations, demonstrations, and exercises
Required qualifications:
- Expert knowledge of industry protocols (LVDS, I2C, HDMI, UART, SPI, CAN, USB, MIPI)
- Proficient in circuit design with knowledge of embedded microcontrollers, video image processing, battery technology, motor controllers, and power distribution
- Strong ECAD skills with electrical design software (Altium preferred, Eagle PCB, Fusion360, KICAD)
- Knowledge of electrical simulation tools (LTspice) and RF simulation tools (ANSYS HFSS, CST Microwave Studio)
- MCAD experience with Autodesk Fusion360 and/or SolidWorks
- Embedded processor experience (ARM) with C/C++ programming
- Familiarity with gas and battery-powered UAVs and associated avionics (IMUs, AHRS, BLDC motors)
- Test and debug abilities with lab equipment (DMMs, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, logic analyzers)
- Strong problem-solving and leadership skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
