Salary: USD 124,000 - 216,000 / annual
Heart Aerospace is developing the ES-30, a regional hybrid-electric airplane with 30-passenger capacity, 200 km electric zero-emission range, and 400 km extended hybrid range. The company is targeting type certification by the end of the decade.
You will join the Propulsion team as an Electric Motor Design Engineer, leading the design and development of high-voltage electric motors for the aircraft's hybrid propulsion system. This is a hands-on technical role where you'll own the full lifecycle from concept through certification of the Electric Propulsion Unit (EPU).
Key responsibilities:
- Design, develop, commission, and certify cutting-edge electric motors for hybrid propulsion
- Lead system-level testing including motor and propeller test stands
- Collaborate with suppliers on integrated, certifiable subsystems
- Perform avionics-optimized motor topology trade studies
- Create 2D/3D CAD models using tools like Siemens NX
- Optimize electromagnetic active parts for manufacturing and certification
- Develop design failure mode and effects analysis (DFMEA)
Required qualifications:
- 2+ years professional experience designing high-voltage, high-power electric motors
- Deep understanding of permanent magnet motor design, principles, modeling, and analysis
- Proficiency with JMAG, Ansys Maxwell, RMxpert, or MotorCAD
- Hands-on experience integrating propulsion/powertrain test stands with instrumentation and controls
- Strong knowledge of motor manufacturing processes (stator winding, lamination stacking, varnishing)
- Understanding of heat treatment, statics, dynamics, and mechanics of materials
- Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
Nice-to-have:
- Understanding of EASA CS-23/25 or FAA FAR Part 23/25 certification requirements
- Knowledge of aerospace airworthiness standards (DO-254, DO-160)
