Sila Nanotechnologies is a next-generation battery materials company developing advanced lithium-ion battery materials to accelerate the clean energy transition. The company is seeking an EHS&S Specialist to join the Environmental, Health, Safety & Sustainability team at its Moses Lake, WA manufacturing facility.
Reporting to the EHS&S Site Manager, you will serve as an individual contributor supporting a 24/7 manufacturing operations site. You will develop, implement, and continuously improve EHS&S compliance programs and risk reduction strategies across the facility.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and updating sitewide EHS&S policies, standards, work instructions, and training materials across critical safety domains (Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space Entry, Work at Heights, Electrical Safety, PPE, Waste Management, Hot Work)
- Performing comprehensive chemical and equipment hazard assessments and recommending engineering controls and process improvements
- Conducting employee exposure monitoring studies (noise, airborne contaminants, chemical exposures) within training and qualification limits
- Leading incident investigations, near-miss reporting, and root cause analysis; defining corrective actions (CAPA) and tracking completion
- Serving on the Sila Emergency Response Team (ERT) as Safety Officer with on-call rotation responsibilities
- Tracking and analyzing event and near-miss trends to inform safety committees and proactive risk mitigation
- Researching federal, state, and local regulations, codes, and industry standards to guide compliance efforts
- Maintaining EHS&S records and documentation in audit-ready condition; representing the EHS&S team on site safety committees

The role is based at a Process Safety Management (PSM) covered facility where highly hazardous chemicals are used. Physical demands include lifting up to 20 lbs individually and 50 lbs with assistance, wearing fall protection and climbing ladders, traversing multi-building industrial facilities, occasional kneeling/stooping/working in restricted spaces, and passing medical evaluation and respirator fit testing.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Health, Chemistry, or related science-based discipline (preferred)
- Minimum 2+ years of hands-on EH&S program support experience in manufacturing, chemical processing, advanced materials, or fast-paced industrial environment
- Solid foundation in OSHA, EPA, and state-level EHS regulations and standards (LOTO, Hazard Communication, Industrial Hygiene, Confined Space)
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and time-management skills with ability to meet deadlines in high-paced environments
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to build relationships with technicians, engineers, and executives
- Proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite, and EHS management software/databases
- ASP (Associate Safety Professional) or relevant safety/HAZWOPER/ERT certifications preferred
