Conduct regular workplace inspections, safety observations, risk reviews, and leadership safety engagements. Coach leaders, supervisors, and employees in effective risk management and safe work practices. Develop and deliver EHS training, inductions, toolbox talks, and awareness programs. High-Risk Operations: Provide specialist EHS oversight and practical guidance for lifting operations, electrical work and isolation/LOTO, lithium-ion batteries (charging, storage, handling, emergency response), offshore testing and field activities, heavy manufacturing equipment and machinery guarding, hot work, working at heights, and contractor/visitor safety management. Risk Management & Compliance: Maintain the site's risk management framework and ensure critical risks have effective controls. Lead development and review of risk assessments. Monitor compliance with applicable Australian legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and relevant standards. Maintain the site's EHS management system, documentation, and records. Prepare for and support internal, external, and regulatory audits. Track corrective actions to closure. Incident Management: Lead investigations of incidents, injuries, near misses, and environmental events. Identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions. Manage incident reporting, notifications, and follow-up in accordance with legal and company requirements. Analyze trends to identify opportunities for risk reduction. Coordinate emergency preparedness, drills, and response arrangements. Environmental & Occupational Health: Manage the site's environmental compliance obligations and programs. Support waste management, hazardous substances, spill prevention, and pollution-control initiatives. Monitor occupational health risks such as noise, hazardous chemicals, dust, ergonomics, and other workplace exposures. Coordinate occupational hygiene assessments and health surveillance where required. Promote employee wellbeing while maintaining a strong focus on prevention and risk control. Contractor & Project Support: Establish EHS requirements for contractors and verify compliance. Review equipment specifications, layouts, and processes from an EHS perspective. Support management of change to ensure risks are identified before implementation. Provide EHS input into new technology, equipment, and process introductions. Required Qualifications and Experience: - Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Safety/Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline - Progressive EHS experience in engineering, manufacturing, maritime, defence, aerospace, or other complex technical/industrial environments - Experience conducting hazard analyses or risk assessments integrated with engineering and program decision-making, not purely after-the-fact compliance work - ICAM Lead Investigator certification - Demonstrated ability to influence multidisciplinary teams without direct authority - Strong communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills - Ability to translate technical risk into actionable business and engineering recommendations - Natural tendency towards challenging the status quo; leans into hard problems instead of walking away Preferred Qualifications and Experience: - Direct experience in maritime, shipbuilding, or naval engineering/operations environments (vessel construction, shipyard operations, marine systems) - Experience with ISO 45001, ISO 14001 - Advanced degree in Safety Engineering, Environmental/Occupational Health, Systems Engineering, or a related field
