Ramp is hiring an Economist for its Economics Lab, a research function that analyzes business spending patterns using Ramp's $200B+ dataset. The Ramp AI Index, the lab's flagship product, tracks AI adoption and spending across businesses and is regularly cited by major financial and news outlets including the Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, and The Economist. In this role, you will own and expand the Ramp AI Index by adding new metrics around token spend and AI ROI, extending research internationally, and publishing rigorous but accessible analysis for policymakers, researchers, businesses, the press, and the public. You'll report to Ara Kharazian, the lead economist. You will also build a new customer-facing economics function from the ground up. This includes developing Ramp's economic outlook, meeting with customers and prospects, presenting to CFOs and finance teams, and translating data insights into actionable recommendations for business planning, budgeting, and AI strategy. The role blends economic judgment, applied data science, public writing, data visualization, and executive communication. You should be able to move quickly from identifying an important question to producing credible analysis, clear visuals, and advice that business leaders can act on. Required qualifications include a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Data Scientist or Economist, strong SQL knowledge (Redshift, Snowflake, or BigQuery preferred), and familiarity with BI tools like Looker, Omni, Sigma, or Hex. You should have a track record of shipping high-quality research and thought leadership on tight timelines, strong perspectives on AI economics and policy, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment. You'll be an active reader of economics, business, and AI news, an advanced user of AI for data science, and someone with an eye for good data visualization and web design. Importantly, you should be able to communicate complex ideas in an engaging, non-academic way. Nice-to-haves include experience with the modern data stack (Fivetran, dbt, Hightouch) and background in fintech or payments.
