Cowboy Space Corp. is building infrastructure to power and connect the orbital economy through Low Earth Orbit satellites. The company, founded in 2024 by Baiju Bhatt (Robinhood co-founder) and backed by leading investors, is developing satellites that collect sunlight and enable on-orbit compute, transmit energy via infrared lasers, and deliver secure, high-bandwidth optical data.
As a DSP Software Engineer, you will develop real-time signal processing algorithms that power space-based communications and sensing systems. You'll design, implement, and optimize software that extracts, processes, and analyzes high-speed data streams in resource-constrained space environments.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and optimize real-time DSP algorithms for flight systems in C/C++
- Develop algorithms for filtering, modulation, demodulation, synchronization, channel estimation, beamforming, and spectral analysis
- Optimize for latency, throughput, memory utilization, and power efficiency in embedded systems
- Collaborate with FPGA, RF, avionics, and embedded software engineers on hardware/software co-design
- Validate algorithms through simulation, laboratory testing, and hardware-in-the-loop environments
- Develop test frameworks and analysis tools using Python or MATLAB
- Support system integration, debugging, and performance characterization during hardware bring-up and flight testing
- Participate in architecture reviews, design documentation, and peer code reviews
- Contribute to CI/CD and automated testing pipelines
Required qualifications: Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; 5+ years professional DSP software development; strong C/C++ skills; solid understanding of digital signal processing fundamentals; experience with real-time algorithms on embedded processors; familiarity with Python, MATLAB, Linux development environments; strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
Preferred: Master's or Ph.D. in related field; aerospace/satellite/radar/defense DSP experience; knowledge of modulation schemes, error correction, synchronization, equalization, adaptive filtering; beamforming or phased array experience; ARM/x86 optimization; CUDA/GPU acceleration; FPGA collaboration experience; communication protocols knowledge; Git and CI/CD experience.
