Blank Street is seeking a District Manager to lead an area of 5+ coffee and beverage stores in New York City. You will be the ultimate leader of your area and the General Managers who run each location, with primary responsibility for growing people and driving operational excellence. Key Responsibilities: Hospitality Leadership: Coach General Managers to build systems, behaviors, and processes that maintain high hospitality standards across all shifts. Conduct regular store visits and use data to hold GMs accountable for closing performance gaps. Take an active role in turning around struggling stores and launching new locations. Profit & Loss Management: Translate quarterly sales forecasts from headquarters into store-by-store plans. Set labor targets a quarter in advance, including headcount and inter-store transfers, and coach GMs to build rotas accordingly. Help GMs calibrate inventory to match demand forecasts and establish guardrails to prevent overstocking or shortages. Talent Development: Develop General Managers into future leaders through training pathways, regular one-on-ones, and direct feedback. Own the talent pipeline by calibrating hiring and promotion decisions across your area and setting quarterly succession targets from barista to GM. Build an area-wide culture that is fast-moving, high-energy, collaborative, and distinctly Blank Street. Strategic Operations: Master your stores' KPIs and P&L statements. Set clear priorities for your area weekly and quarterly. Work with each GM to build individual store plans and stay close to execution. Roll out new initiatives (menu launches, tech tools) across your area with clear communication, hands-on training, and tracking until adoption sticks. You will report to the Director of Operations and work closely with the Field Leadership team. The role requires regular travel between stores within your market, 50 hours per week, 5 days of availability, and availability to work 2 peak days (typically Friday, Saturday, Sunday). Requirements: - 5+ years of leadership experience in hospitality, retail, or fast-growing consumer business - Experience leading multiple locations (3-10) and developing the managers who run them - Passionate about hospitality with a track record of creating exceptional customer and employee experiences - Strong operational and financial judgment; ability to read P&L and KPI dashboards and determine next steps - Proven people leadership: experience developing managers, hiring strong teams, coaching, making decisions, and leading through change - Strategic planning capability: ability to plan a quarter ahead and translate priorities into actionable plans for GMs - Excellent communication skills in writing (Slack, Notion, email) and speaking (area meetings, workshops)
