Hadrian is building autonomous factories to reindustrialize America, combining AI, advanced software, robotics, and full-stack manufacturing to help aerospace and defense companies build mission-critical systems up to 10x faster and at lower cost. The company recently raised $1.37B in Series D funding at a $7.87B valuation. In this Director role, you will build and scale a technical data modernization operation that converts decades-old defense system documentation—scanned paper, hand-marked prints, and legacy 2D drawings—into modern, manufacturing-ready 3D models and technical packages. This is a critical capability enabling customers to maintain systems, quote parts, and leverage Hadrian's manufacturing platform. You will report to the Senior Director of Central Quality and NPI and own the complete operating model: defining standard workflows, establishing training programs, implementing quality controls, and ensuring each technical data package matches source specifications before delivery. You'll partner closely with Hadrian's software team to continuously improve automation tools, reducing manual effort per package over time. Key responsibilities include: - Building the operating model for each program, starting with a large multi-year defense customer migration - Planning and executing the hiring ramp across multiple locations, managing sourcing, onboarding, training, and retention - Balancing capacity across programs, tracking throughput and quality metrics against schedules, and resolving bottlenecks - Hiring and developing the leaders who manage day-to-day operations - Ensuring compliance with each program's data-handling requirements while maintaining quality standards You will manage a team that grows from a small founding group into a large organization, initially comprising Conversion Engineers (who define processes and check work), Conversion Specialists (who execute conversions using Hadrian's software), and CAD Modelers (who build 3D models from 2D drawings). As the operation scales and more programs launch, the team will divide into separate groups. Success is measured by: (1) Throughput—technical data packages delivered monthly against program plans; (2) Quality—first-submission acceptance rate and post-delivery error rates; (3) Ramp—hiring on schedule, time-to-full-productivity for new hires, and retention. REQUIREMENTS: - Proven track record building and running a high-volume technical operation (production, engineering services, or drawing conversion) and scaling it to 50+ people - Experience hiring and training people quickly while maintaining engagement in repetitive work - Demonstrated ability to run operations using throughput and quality data - 3+ years leading other leaders (people management) - Deep knowledge of engineering drawings, including GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing) and model-based definition, sufficient to own quality standards - Ability to raise problems early and make decisions without waiting for full consensus - Engineering or STEM degree, or equivalent hands-on experience PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Experience building a team from the ground up at a startup or fast-growing company - Track record running a large legacy-to-modern technical data or PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) migration, including team and throughput management - Experience working alongside a software team to automate manual engineering processes - Teamcenter or CATIA software experience - Naval, submarine, or federal technical data program background IMPORTANT: This role requires U.S. citizenship or national status, lawful permanent residency, or eligibility to obtain ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) authorization from the U.S. Department of State due to defense program requirements.
