Primary seeks a Director of Supply Chain Operations to lead end-to-end inbound logistics strategy and manage the company's freight operations from purchase order release through domestic warehouse delivery. This role combines strategic planning with operational execution, requiring both vendor management expertise and team leadership.
Key responsibilities include owning inbound freight strategy by negotiating with freight forwarders, carriers, and customs brokers to optimize transit times, service levels, and landed costs. You'll serve as the company's expert on global supply chain trends, anticipating port conditions, tariff changes, capacity constraints, and geopolitical shifts to build practical risk-mitigation strategies. The role involves leading operational readiness for wholesale expansion, overseeing vendor preparation, EDI/systems development, and process alignment to onboard new wholesale partners.
You'll establish vendor scorecards, internal reporting, and monthly cross-functional reviews to provide visibility into freight performance, cost metrics, and compliance risk. You'll own vendor routing and packing guidelines, partnering across Operations to enforce compliance and manage reporting or chargeback processes. Budget and financial planning responsibilities include partnering with the VP of Operations to set departmental goals, forecast inbound freight costs, and manage operational P&L planning.
You'll direct and develop the Supply Chain Operations team, including managing a Senior Supply Chain Manager, while nurturing talent, removing manual process friction, and building modern operational capacity. Success metrics within 6-12 months include streamlining internal workflows, establishing forwarder and vendor scorecards with measurable improvements in transit times and landed costs, implementing accurate freight cost forecasting models, driving cross-functional alignment, and co-creating the department's 2027 strategic roadmap.
Required qualifications include extensive background directing inbound freight strategy, carrier/forwarder negotiations, and vendor operations. Wholesale operational expertise with experience preparing vendors, integrating EDI systems, and building frameworks to launch and scale wholesale partnerships is essential. Deep understanding of macro logistics trends, duty/tariff risk, and direct experience with U.S. Customs and Border Protection on compliance and clearance issues is required. Data-driven mindset with skills in establishing operational KPIs, building cost forecasting models, and streamlining manual reporting. Experience with NetSuite or modern AI productivity tools is a plus. Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and ability to build partnerships across Sourcing, Merchandising, Planning, and external vendors.
