Braintrust is an agent observability platform that helps teams at companies like Notion, Stripe, Box, OpenAI, and Cloudflare trace their AI agents, identify issues, and run evaluations to improve performance. The company is seeking a Director of Product Engineering to lead the team building Braintrust's core product experience. In this hands-on engineering leadership role, you will build and lead an exceptional product engineering team while setting technical direction and raising the product bar across the organization. Key responsibilities include: - Building and scaling a high-performing product engineering team with a culture of ownership, ambition, and consistent execution - Elevating Braintrust's UI and product experience across interaction design, performance, reliability, and polish - Owning the technical direction of the product, evolving the frontend architecture to support sophisticated workflows, larger datasets, and rapid customer growth - Staying close to product, customers, and code by collaborating with Product and Design teams to understand users and make critical technical decisions - Delivering ambitious product capabilities at scale, including prompt playground, prompt management and versioning, multiplayer human review, and LLM analysis across large datasets - Leading engineering efforts on frontier problems in how teams work with AI Ideal candidates bring proven engineering leadership experience with a track record of building, managing, and scaling high-performing teams. You should have exceptional product judgment and UI craft, understanding what separates good products from world-class ones. Deep technical expertise in modern web applications is essential—experience with TypeScript, React, SQL, and Next.js is expected. You combine a builder's mindset with high ownership and bias toward action, thriving in fast-moving environments while maintaining quality. Experience with startups, AI, or LLM-powered products is valued but not required.
