Arc is electrifying the marine industry by rethinking powertrains, software, and vessel designs from first principles. The company has proven core technology, is scaling production of its flagship consumer model, and is now extending its platform to commercial applications (tugs, ferries, defense) with signed contracts and a robust pipeline. As Director of Product and Design, you will own the complete product vision and execution across three interconnected domains: industrial design of vessels, software experiences (onboard displays, controls, mobile apps), and product strategy that unifies them. This is a rare generalist role requiring equal fluency in hardware and software design, paired with strategic thinking and team leadership. You will report directly to the CEO and lead a growing design organization. Key responsibilities include defining and evangelizing product vision grounded in customer research; directing exterior and interior vessel design from concept through production; directing UI/UX for digital experiences; executing high-leverage design work yourself (concept sketches, surface models, interface flows, prototypes); recruiting and mentoring designers across disciplines; collaborating daily with engineering, manufacturing, marketing, and sales; building supplier relationships; and presenting design decisions to executives and the board. This is a builder's role at a builder's company—you'll roll up your sleeves and execute design work yourself, especially early on. You'll balance beauty, performance, manufacturability, and cost while protecting design intent through production and shipping on schedule. Minimum qualifications: 10+ years in design with 5+ years in design leadership; depth in both software (UI/UX) and hardware (industrial) design; proven track record of setting product vision and shipping complex products; demonstrated ability to grow teams and build design organizations; experience with supplier relationships and design execution; strong technical understanding of manufacturing; fluency in modern design tools (Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Alias/NX, KeyShot, Unreal); excellent presentation and storytelling skills; bachelor's degree in design or equivalent. Bonus: experience with software-defined hardware, AI tools, passion for electric vehicles or marine industry, prior boating exposure, comfort with fast but sustainable pace.
