Neko Health is a preventative healthcare company using proprietary technology and clinical care to deliver personalized health insights in a single, non-invasive visit. The company is scaling internationally with new clinics, legal entities, and markets, creating a new Director of Tax role reporting directly to the CFO.
This is a build role starting as an individual contributor with an explicit mandate to design and grow a lean, accountable in-house tax function as the company scales. The role owns Neko's tax strategy and risk position end-to-end, with day-to-day compliance work initially delivered through professional firms while this role sets strategy, manages advisers, and owns outcomes.
In the first 6-12 months, you will:
Tax Strategy & Planning:
- Own global tax strategy supporting commercial and financing plans while managing risk appropriately
- Lead transfer pricing policy design, implementation, benchmarking and defence across multiple operating entities
- Advise CFO and treasurer on cross-border funding implications: intercompany loans, equity injections, cash repatriation, withholding tax and thin capitalization
- Provide tax input into new market entry: entity structuring, permanent establishment risk, corporate tax registration and operating model consequences
- Identify and manage tax risk from growth, escalating material exposures to CFO with clear options
- Support M&A activity and licensing agreements from tax perspective, including due diligence and transaction structuring
Tax Compliance Oversight:
- Own compliance oversight for corporate income tax, VAT/sales tax and indirect taxes across all markets
- Set the operating model for compliance: select, brief and manage professional firms in each market while retaining accountability
- Establish group-wide tax compliance calendar and control framework with centralized visibility of obligations and deadlines
- Review and sign off VAT/sales tax treatment on material transactions; escalate uncertain positions
- Own tax authority relationships and lead/support audits and enquiries across markets
Team & Partnership:
- Work in close partnership with Director of Financial Control on tax accounting, provisions and statutory reporting
- Act as tax voice in FP&A and Treasury discussions on funding structure, dividend planning and financial forecasting
- Manage external tax advisory budget and relationships, ensuring right mix of quality, coverage and cost
- Build business case for and progressively build in-house tax team as volume and complexity justify it
Success means: transfer pricing policy is documented and defensible; every market has clear, on-time compliance; cross-border and market decisions shaped by tax input early; CFO and Financial Control Director have full confidence in tax position; credible plan exists for bringing tax capability in-house.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Qualified tax professional (CTA, ACA/CA with tax specialism, or equivalent) with significant international corporate tax experience, ideally including in-house time at a scaling multinational and Big 4 or professional services tax practice
- Deep, hands-on transfer pricing experience: policy design, documentation and defence in multi-entity groups
- Strong track record advising on cross-border financing structures and market entry from tax perspective; comfortable operating at pace in businesses still building processes
- Broad working knowledge of VAT/sales tax and indirect tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions
- Experience managing external advisers and firms as primary delivery mechanism for compliance, with discipline to hold them accountable
- Comfortable as individual contributor now with credibility and inclination to design and lead small team later
- Direct, clear communicator who translates technical tax positions into commercial terms for CFO, Executive Leadership Team and Board
- Curiosity to learn and develop AI skills is a prerequisite for any role at Neko
