Function Health is a mission-driven healthtech company that has raised $350M and was named a TIME100 Most Influential Company. The company is building a full-stack health system, starting with lab testing and now reaching over a million members across diverse demographics and geographies.
As Director of Social, you will own social media strategy and execution end-to-end, leading a small team spanning social, content, and community. This is a highly visible, consequential role that directly shapes how the world perceives Function and drives growth through cultural relevance and trust-building.
Key Responsibilities:
**Social Strategy & Execution**: Drive multi-channel social growth across Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, Reddit, YouTube, Threads, and Facebook. Own full-funnel strategy from reach and engagement to cultural relevance. Build an always-on, performance-driven strategy that balances brand integrity with experimentation. Translate company priorities into platform-native content and formats. Personally model best-in-class real-time engagement and set the creative bar with exceptional taste and cultural judgment.
**AI-Native Social & Community**: Design and deploy AI agents and workflows to manage community engagement at scale—listening, triage, response, and follow-through. Use AI to multiply team output across ideation, production, versioning, trend detection, creator discovery, and reporting. Make deliberate decisions about what AI handles versus what requires human touch to preserve brand voice and trust.
**Creator & Influencer Partnership**: Partner closely with the creator and influencer leader to align social and creator strategies. Turn creator content into platform-native social assets. Bring cultural lens to partnership fit and work with growth teams to tie social to measurable acquisition outcomes.
**Cultural Intelligence & Trend Leadership**: Obsess over where culture is heading 12–24 months out. Decode the behavioral "why" behind audience actions and identify cultural moments worth owning. Apply cultural intelligence to platform strategy, content direction, and ambassador selection. Map cultural tensions Function navigates (access vs. luxury, data empowerment vs. health-tech skepticism) and help the brand move through them intentionally.
**Team Leadership**: Lead and develop a small team across social, content, and community. Set direction, operating model, and performance standards. Build an AI-native operating model that enables a small team to produce outsized output.
**Cross-Functional Collaboration**: Work daily with creative, comms, and creator/influencer teams. Share ideas early, communicate clearly on performance and strategy, and move fast without sacrificing quality.
**Performance & Accountability**: Define metrics that matter. Tie cultural and social work to business outcomes. Own your calls and your numbers.
Required Qualifications:
- Up to about 10 years of experience owning social strategy, content, and community (recency matters more than tenure; extensive recent AI-native experience can balance fewer years)
- Hands-on, proven AI-native experience in social, including activating AI agents for community engagement, with results to show
- Recent, compelling social activations you can walk through: the idea, execution, and business impact
- Experience at culture brands, including building something from nothing in early days
- Proven track record of meaningful channel growth that drove real business outcomes
- Experience leading and developing a small team
- Deep operating experience in real time: cultural moments, news cycles, launches, live engagement
- Genuine cultural intelligence practice—can explain not just what performed, but why and what it signals about audience direction
- Strong analytical instincts and fluency tying social performance to growth metrics
Desired Traits:
- Maker mentality; comfortable concepting, creating, and shipping work yourself
- Strong collaborative instincts; people want to work with you again
- Great taste and sound judgment
- Fast, decisive, and comfortable being accountable in public
- Detail-obsessed but not precious
- Opinionated about culture and curious about what drives it
- Passionate about Function's mission to empower 8 billion people to live 100 healthy years
- Biased toward action and ruthless prioritization
- Embodies Function's core values: Ruthless Prioritization, Member-First Always, One Team Moving Fast, Radical Ownership, Mission Over Ego, Sustained Integrity
