Snowflake is seeking a visionary Director of Engineering to lead the Traffic & Networking group, responsible for the core infrastructure that powers all data movement, connectivity, and communication across Snowflake's global Data Cloud. This team owns ingress, egress, domain management, and internal networking layers connecting thousands of customers across public and private connectivity paths, spanning AWS, Azure, and GCP. In this role, you will set the strategic vision and roadmap for Snowflake's networking foundation while driving execution of complex infrastructure initiatives. You'll guide your team in building software solutions that automate and scale networking across multiple cloud providers, lead projects from conception through implementation, and collaborate with distributed teams across the US, Ireland, Poland, and beyond. Your responsibilities include providing deep technical expertise in high-performance systems and security, actively recruiting and growing a diverse engineering team, mentoring direct reports on career development, and ensuring operational excellence by dynamically responding to production issues and customer needs. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who views infrastructure through a product development lens. You'll be modernizing legacy infrastructure, building new observability capabilities, designing next-generation connectivity models, and owning the full traffic stack—from custom proxy infrastructure to service discovery to network automation. Every Snowflake team depends on what this group ships, making infrastructure itself the product. REQUIREMENTS: - 15+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5+ years in engineering management leading other leaders - Proven track record designing systems and managing large-scale production infrastructure, with focus on networking, compute, or storage - Strong hands-on experience with cloud service providers (AWS, Azure, GCP) - Deep experience at scale within multi-tenant or multi-single-tenant SaaS environments, handling billions of complex queries and massive traffic ingress/egress - Excellent collaboration and communication skills to bridge complex networking requirements with cross-functional business goals - BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience
