Infleqtion is seeking a Director of Engineering Operations to lead the engineering operating system for the Quantum Sensing Solutions (QSS) group. This role owns the end-to-end engineering lifecycle from concept development through manufacturing transition, establishing scalable processes, governance frameworks, and quality controls for complex quantum technologies and hardware/firmware development.
Reporting to the QSS Chief Engineer, the Director will translate technical rigor into practical, stage-appropriate processes that balance speed during exploratory work with increasing control and assurance as designs mature. Key responsibilities include:
**Engineering Operating System & Lifecycle Governance**: Own the QSS engineering lifecycle with defined phases, maturity expectations, decision points, and required evidence. Establish mandatory engineering processes scalable across programs, disciplines, and sites. Define and administer a tailoring model that preserves agility in early development while increasing traceability and assurance as solutions mature. Translate best practices from high-value programs into repeatable standards, templates, and infrastructure for broader adoption. Ensure compatibility with enterprise operating models, contractual requirements, and customer expectations.
**Technical Gate Reviews & Release Governance**: Own and enforce the technical gate-review process, including entrance/exit criteria, required participants, evidence packages, and closure expectations. Provide direct governance at major lifecycle transitions, baseline events, product releases, qualification milestones, and manufacturing decisions. Partner with Chief Engineers and Program Managers to ensure technical adequacy and operational readiness are evaluated as complementary but distinct decisions.
**Quality Management & AS9100 Readiness**: Lead the quality organization to support delivery of prototypes, qualification units, low-rate builds, and run-rate products. Lead QSS preparation for and maintenance of AS9100 certification, including process definition, deployment, training, audits, and corrective action. Ensure quality personnel provide practical support while retaining independent authority to escalate or stop work when requirements are at risk. Maintain independent escalation paths to executive leadership.
**Configuration Management & Document Control**: Lead configuration management and document control as responsive service functions enabling teams to establish and maintain accurate technical baselines and records. Own configuration-management policy and implementation for hardware and firmware across the organization.
The successful candidate combines broad engineering leadership with practical experience building operating systems for complex hardware and firmware development. This leader must be comfortable applying lightweight controls to exploratory work, increasing rigor as designs mature, and directly engaging at major decision points. The role requires a service mindset, independent judgment, and the ability to make compliance and rigor practical in a fast-moving advanced-development environment.
