Kalepa is building professional-grade AI systems for the insurance industry, a $7 trillion global sector. The company creates software that can read, reason, decide, and act within real insurance workflows—augmenting underwriters, claims professionals, and pricing teams while automating tasks over time. Products are already in production with leading insurers, driving measurable outcomes.
As Director of Engineering for Core Product, you will lead and scale Kalepa's core platform team, responsible for the foundational technology that powers AI-augmented and AI-driven underwriting at major insurance companies. You will define the architectural roadmap, establish engineering standards, and drive operational excellence across a high-performance team. This is a deeply technical leadership role requiring you to bridge product vision with technical execution, ensuring engineering investments directly drive business impact.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the Core Product engineering team, including managing managers and scaling the organization
- Defining architectural strategy and long-term technical roadmap
- Establishing frameworks, standards, and cross-functional cadences
- Driving quality, reliability, and shipping velocity
- Partnering with product, executive, and cross-functional leaders to shape Kalepa's platform
- Building a results-driven culture focused on customer impact
You bring 10+ years of software engineering experience with at least 3 years of full-time people management (ideally including managing managers). You are known for rethinking how engineering is done, comfortable managing both human and AI agents, and have a proven track record driving complex, large-scale initiatives. You care deeply about quality and long-term business growth. Experience at high-growth, venture-backed companies or with AI/ML systems is a plus.
Kalepa is backed by IA Ventures and Inspired Capital, with a team from Facebook, Palantir, Google, Amazon, McKinsey, Mastercard, and Uber. The company has a global remote workforce (10+ languages) and invests in bringing teams together for regional and global offsites. Culture emphasizes hustle, customer impact, meritocracy, transparency, and relentless experimentation.
