Attentive is an AI marketing platform for 1:1 personalization that unifies SMS, RCS, email, and push notifications. The company serves over 8,000 customers across 70+ industries, including major brands like Crate and Barrel, Urban Outfitters, and Carter's. Attentive has been recognized by Deloitte's Fast 500 (four years running), Forbes' Cloud 100 (five years running), LinkedIn's Top Startups, and Inc.'s Best Workplaces.
As Director of Engineering, Cloud Platform, you will lead the teams responsible for Attentive's cloud infrastructure, centralized data platforms, and database infrastructure. You'll own the technical direction and operational health of the foundation that powers the company's products while raising the bar for how infrastructure teams operate, execute, and serve the broader engineering organization.
Key responsibilities include:
**Data Centralization & Storage**: Lead the shared platforms that bring data together across Attentive, including Snowflake and related storage systems. Improve reliability, performance, governance, and cost efficiency in partnership with consuming teams.
**Cloud Infrastructure & DevOps**: Drive AWS compute, networking, cloud services, and infrastructure-as-code foundations. Establish consistent, automated approaches to provisioning, configuration, and operating infrastructure at scale.
**Cloud Optimization**: Own strategy, execution, and measurable cost savings across Attentive's infrastructure and software stack. Partner with Engineering, Product, and Finance to prioritize optimizations, improve spend visibility, and guide architecture decisions while maintaining performance and reliability.
**Technical Leadership**: Set clear technical strategy and roadmap across multiple teams, connecting infrastructure investments to product delivery and business priorities. Raise the bar for technical quality, execution, and ownership. Define strong performance expectations, hold teams accountable, and build a culture of proactive problem-solving.
**Team Development**: Hire, coach, and develop strong engineering managers and senior technical leaders. Assess talent thoughtfully, address performance gaps directly, and create growth opportunities for top performers.
**Developer Experience Partnership**: Work with Developer Experience teams to make infrastructure easy to provision, configure, and test through reusable components, clear interfaces, and self-service workflows. Enable engineers and AI agents to create reproducible environments and get fast feedback within clear access and cost controls.
**Operational Excellence**: Raise standards across observability, incident response, service objectives, disaster recovery, and safe change management. Ensure incidents lead to lasting improvements. Lead complex infrastructure and database migrations with practical rollout plans, validation, and recovery paths.
**Measurement & Impact**: Measure progress through outcomes: faster environment setup, shorter feedback cycles, fewer manual interventions, stronger reliability, and better infrastructure economics.
This is a deeply technical leadership role with broad impact. You'll guide major architecture decisions, develop engineering leaders, and help the company move with startup speed while delivering the reliability, security, and efficiency customers depend on.
**Requirements**:
