As Director of Client Engineering, you will lead Tide's frontend engineering organization, comprising Core Architecture, Engineering Productivity, and Quality Engineering teams. You'll oversee Engineering Managers and collaborate with Staff Engineers to ensure the frontend ecosystem is a competitive advantage.
Key responsibilities include:
**Architectural Advocacy**: Partner with Staff Engineers to drive pragmatic frontend strategy. Take a hands-on approach to identifying and resolving bottlenecks in large-scale monorepo workflows, ensuring the codebase remains sustainable and performant.
**Technical Stewardship & Efficiency**: Advocate for technical solutions aligned with Tide's business goals. Evaluate the current stack and workforce model to maximize engineering leverage without sacrificing tool appropriateness.
**Product Observability**: Ensure stakeholders globally have full visibility into product experience across all configurations through comprehensive monitoring and analytics systems.
**Delivery Excellence**: Own the modern Release Engineering model. Implement comprehensive automation strategies that prioritize high-frequency, predictable deployment cycles.
**Emerging Technology & AI**: Provide thought leadership on leveraging AI and agentic solutions within the client-side experience. Explore how AI can optimize frontend performance, automate interactions, and drive personalized member experiences.
You'll work with Flutter and Dart-based mobile applications, modular architecture patterns, state management, dependency injection, and BDD testing frameworks. The role requires deep engagement with technical direction while maintaining alignment with commercial objectives.
Ideal candidates have led significant engineering organizations, possess deep frontend expertise across multiple frameworks, and demonstrate systems thinking that connects technical foundations to team velocity. You should be comfortable navigating high-scale architecture complexities, debating technical trade-offs, and communicating trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
