Snowflake is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead the AI Functions product portfolio, a hybrid director/principal engineer role at the forefront of AI-powered analytics. The AI Functions team is democratizing AI by embedding powerful AI functions directly into SQL, enabling data analysts, engineers, and scientists to build sophisticated data transformation pipelines with minimal configuration. This portfolio represents one of Snowflake's most strategic initiatives, converging the company's industry-leading data processing capabilities with advanced AI and LLM technology.
In this role, you will create and own the architecture and design for the AI Functions product surface, influence the product roadmap, and identify new initiatives that push Snowflake's technology forward. You'll set the strategic vision for your team, drive accountability for plans and deliverables, and solve real business needs at scale by applying strong software engineering and analytical problem-solving skills. You'll drive team projects from ideation through implementation in partnership with cross-functional teams, fostering a culture of creativity and innovation while ensuring sound, practical decision-making.
You'll lead organizational structure evolution, improve engineering efficiency, and hire, develop, and mentor senior technical leaders. You'll manage and grow teams that have significant impact on Snowflake's overall product success, with responsibility for managing managers and scaling high-performing engineering organizations.
Ideal candidates bring an advanced degree in Computer Science, 10+ years of software engineering experience with recent hands-on work, and 2+ years of engineering director experience including managing managers. Deep experience with AI infrastructure and LLMs is essential, along with experience building large-scale query processing or distributed systems. You should have a strong track record of recruiting and growing technical teams, with excellent collaboration and communication skills across global organizations.
