Credit Genie is a mobile-first financial wellness platform founded in 2019 by Ed Harycki (former Swift Capital founder, acquired by PayPal). Backed by Khosla Ventures and led by industry veterans from PayPal, Square, and Cash App, the company provides AI-powered personalized financial insights, instant access to cash, and credit-building tools. The Director of Compliance reports to the Head of Legal and owns the company's compliance program, ensuring regulatory adherence while enabling efficient product development. This is a hands-on role that translates compliance strategy into day-to-day execution and integrates regulatory requirements into product and business decisions. The director maintains visibility into the company's compliance posture, reports on program performance and risk trends, and prepares materials for the Board of Directors. Key responsibilities include: - Maintaining and operating a compliance framework for building and scaling consumer financial products within legal and regulatory guidelines - Tracking regulatory developments across consumer finance and adapting the program proactively - Owning compliance review of consumer-facing touchpoints (product flows, disclosures, marketing, fee structures, customer communications) to ensure UDAAP, fair lending, and disclosure compliance - Supporting regulator, auditor, and financial institution partner engagement under the Head of Legal's direction - Building scalable compliance processes that grow with market expansion and new product lines - Embedding compliance into product design early, working hand-in-hand with product, engineering, and design teams - Advising on product structuring to balance compliance with customer experience and competitiveness - Managing consumer complaint monitoring and remediation, identifying compliance risks from customer feedback patterns - Preparing clear, data-driven compliance reporting on program effectiveness, regulatory trends, and key risks - Fostering a compliance-minded culture where teams view regulations as guardrails for innovation - Educating employees on practical compliance principles - Working cross-functionally with legal, risk, finance, and operations teams The company expects in-office presence five days per week to support collaboration and culture, though flexibility is available for personal circumstances. REQUIREMENTS: - 6+ years of experience in compliance, legal, or risk management roles within fintech, financial services, or adjacent regulated industries, with meaningful time on consumer-facing financial products - Track record of building or scaling compliance processes in product-driven, fast-paced environments, ideally at Series A–C stage and/or technology companies - Strong working knowledge of U.S. consumer financial regulations (federal and state level), including UDAAP, TILA/Reg Z, EFTA/Reg E, FCRA, and requirements relevant to cash advances, lending, credit products, tradelines, and payments - Practical understanding of consumer protection principles (clear disclosures, fair treatment, complaint handling) and application to digital product experiences - Experience supporting or implementing AML/KYC programs, with knowledge of Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), OFAC requirements, and FinCEN guidance - Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply regulations pragmatically, enabling compliant solutions that support innovation and user experience - Experience working with regulatory bodies, auditors, and financial institution partners with credible communication style - Comfort working cross-functionally with product, engineering, legal, and operations to embed compliance into product lifecycle - Familiarity with tooling for transaction monitoring, case management, and reporting - Strong communication skills to convey compliance risks and requirements to technical and non-technical audiences - Bachelor's degree required; JD, CRCM, or other relevant certifications a plus
