Radiant is building the world's first mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors. The company's flagship product, Kaleidos, is a 1-megawatt, fail-safe microreactor designed for rapid deployment to hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases. Founded in 2020 and headquartered in El Segundo, CA, Radiant is preparing to test its first reactor at Idaho National Laboratory with initial customer deliveries planned for 2028. As Director of Nuclear Engineering, you will lead and grow a team of nuclear engineers across core physics, shielding performance, dose and consequence analysis, and nuclear instrumentation. You will own the nuclear design and analysis strategy spanning design, operation, and iteration of the microreactor fleet. Key responsibilities include: building and managing a high-performing nuclear engineering team; executing against strategy while removing roadblocks and adapting to shifting priorities; identifying, managing, and communicating technical, schedule, and regulatory risks; developing standardized analysis roadmaps to enable fast iteration across multiple reactor programs; fostering ownership and mentorship; defining nuclear engineering design margins and peer review approaches; and interfacing with universities, national labs, and external partners. You must hold a degree in nuclear engineering, physics, or engineering physics. You need minimum 10 years of experience managing teams in reactor design and analysis, with fluency in engineering first principles across nuclear, thermal, electrical, and mechanical domains. Strong communication skills for multidisciplinary audiences are essential. You must have familiarity with DOE authorization and NRC requirements, demonstrated experience developing nuclear facility safety bases, and hands-on experience with Monte Carlo neutron transport codes (OpenMC, Serpent, or MCNP). Relocation to El Segundo is required, and the role is 100% onsite.
