Veeam is seeking a Director of Graph Databases to lead two core systems within Veeam Data Command Center: the Knowledge Graph and hyperscale data lake integrations. These systems help customers understand where sensitive data lives, who can access it, how it moves, and whether AI models trained on it can be trusted.
In this hands-on technical leadership role, you will set the technical vision and end-to-end architecture for the Knowledge Graph, including the data model, storage engine, and query layer at enterprise scale. You'll guide the evolution of the graph schema for data sources, identities, access, classifications, and lineage using Amazon Neptune and/or Neo4j. You'll own the strategy for hyperscale lake and lakehouse integrations, including connectors and scanning engines that ingest metadata and lineage from Delta Lake, Iceberg, Parquet/Avro, and platforms like Azure Data Lake, AWS S3/Glue, and BigQuery without disrupting production.
Key responsibilities include driving performance and reliability through standards for indexing, partitioning, and query planning; building and scaling an AI-first engineering approach where teams use tools like Claude Code, Cursor, and Copilot responsibly; investing in reusable engineering building blocks; owning delivery outcomes including roadmap execution and operational readiness; and hiring, coaching, and developing leaders including engineering managers and senior/staff engineers.
You'll bring 10+ years of software engineering experience in data infrastructure, graph systems, or distributed data platforms, plus 4+ years of engineering leadership experience including leading through managers and scaling multiple teams. Strong production experience with Amazon Neptune and/or Neo4j is essential, along with proven ability to lead graph modeling for complex domains at enterprise scale. Deep knowledge of Gremlin, Cypher/openCypher, and/or SPARQL is required. Experience with data lakes/lakehouses across major cloud platforms, distributed systems (Spark, Flink, Presto/Trino), and strong backend skills in Go and/or Python are expected. Practical experience with AI-assisted development tools and ability to set security standards is important.
Veeam offers unlimited paid time off, 12 paid holidays, paid parental leave (8-16 weeks), comprehensive medical/dental/vision coverage starting day one, 401(k) matching, mental health support, fertility/adoption support, and professional development opportunities.
