Rippling is a unified HR, IT, and Finance platform that automates the entire employee lifecycle—from payroll and benefits to device provisioning—across global markets. The company has raised $1.4B+ from top-tier investors and operates premium payroll services in Canada, UK, Ireland, Netherlands, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, and India.
You will lead Rippling's Global Payroll Compliance function as its first dedicated Director. This is both a build and run role: you'll inherit a distributed team of 1-2 Product Compliance experts embedded in each premium payroll market, and you'll be accountable for formalizing this function as it scales.
Key responsibilities:
• Lead and coach the Product Compliance experts embedded across premium markets, defining career paths as the function expands.
• Own the operating model: formalize decision rights, escalation paths, and sign-off requirements in partnership with the corporate Compliance function.
• Drive regulatory monitoring and maintain a global compliance roadmap, ensuring each market has visibility into compliance gaps and upcoming regulatory changes.
• Ensure payroll accuracy across all markets through local quality reviews, audit preparation, remediation, and incident diagnosis.
• Serve as the executive connective layer between Product Compliance and R&D, TaxOps, Support, Implementation, Legal, and Sales/GTM.
• Own Help Center content, country guides, and regulatory communications to ensure customers have a reliable compliance experience.
• Coordinate year-end deliverables (statutory filings, declarations, deadlines) across all markets to ensure customers close the fiscal year without surprises.
Your team is distributed across Canada, UK, India, Singapore, Australia, Germany, and France, with your primary office in London.
REQUIREMENTS:
• 12+ years of experience in payroll, tax, or regulatory compliance, including meaningful people-leadership experience managing distributed subject-matter experts across multiple countries or jurisdictions.
• Proven ability to operate inside a product and engineering organization—comfortable writing specs, reviewing designs, and participating in engineering rituals.
• Working knowledge of payroll compliance across at least some of the premium markets (Canada, UK, Ireland, Netherlands, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, India); breadth across several is a strong plus.
• Strong systems thinking: ability to build one consistent operating model across countries with different regulatory regimes and product maturity levels.
• Comfort with ambiguity and defining operating models while running them.
• Excellent stakeholder management across Product, Engineering, TaxOps, Legal, Compliance, and GTM.
• High ownership mindset: accountable for compliance outcomes, not just process management.
• Strong alignment with leadership principles, particularly "Go and See" and "Challenge Each Other Directly."
