The Director of Forward Deployed Engineering leads the Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) team within Re:Build's Digital Innovation Group (DIG). This is a hands-on leadership role combining strong software engineering expertise with proven people management. You will hire, develop, and lead a team of FDEs embedded across Re:Build sites and functions, implementing full-stack digital solutions that solve real-world business problems and drive measurable impact.
Key responsibilities include:
- Partner with Manufacturing, Engineering Services, and Functional teams to identify operational inefficiencies and digital solution opportunities
- Evaluate and prioritize digital initiatives based on business impact, feasibility, and strategic alignment
- Guide FDEs through technical decisions, feature development, code reviews, and delivery execution
- Define and implement engineering standards, coding practices, and security protocols across FDE projects
- Build repeatable delivery mechanisms including reusable assets, playbooks, and implementation approaches
- Establish metrics to measure solution impact and value post-deployment
- Evaluate and foster adoption of AI-assisted development tools (code generation, review, testing automation) to accelerate delivery velocity
- Stay current with digital trends in AI, software development, manufacturing, Industry 4.0, and relevant SaaS solutions
- Travel 25% to customer sites (domestic US only)

REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (MBA or advanced degree preferred; equivalent education/experience acceptable)
- 8+ years leading customer-facing software delivery, implementation, solution engineering, consulting, or technical delivery programs in enterprise SaaS, technology, or systems integrator environments
- 2+ years people leadership or technical leadership experience managing engineers, architects, consultants, or technical delivery teams
- 3–5 years hands-on software development, solution engineering, integration development, or full-stack development with technical leadership responsibilities
- Experience with DevSecOps practices, secure SDLC methodologies, and Agile/SAFe delivery frameworks
- Fluency in AI technologies applied to software development lifecycle
- Proficiency with Jira, Confluence, and project/delivery management tools; proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and concurrent engagements
- Manufacturing operations, industrial engineering, or engineering services experience strongly preferred
