Wellframe is seeking a Director of Software Product Engineering to lead engineering strategy and execution across its Healthcare Payer product portfolio. This is a hands-on leadership role managing a 50–100 engineer organization across multiple product groups, with direct oversight of Engineering Managers, senior technical leads, and architects.
Key responsibilities include building and executing a multi-year engineering roadmap focused on cloud cost optimization, platform consolidation, and AI-assisted engineering adoption. You will own end-to-end delivery of highly scalable SaaS platforms serving health plans and TPAs, ensuring quality through CI/CD standards, robust release gates, and measurable improvements in DORA metrics and defect escape rates. The role requires overseeing feature releases, NFR validation, load testing, and production readiness across multiple products.
Beyond technical execution, you will represent engineering in executive forums and customer briefings, translating technical risk and trade-offs into clear business narratives. You will build talent pipelines, drive succession planning, and foster a culture of ownership, continuous improvement, and psychological safety within the engineering organization.
Required qualifications include 15+ years in software engineering with 7+ years in engineering leadership, proven track record managing 50+ engineer organizations in a software product company, and strong architectural grounding in cloud-native development (AWS or Azure). You should have hands-on background in Java, Python, or .NET; microservices, API design, and event-driven architectures; solid command of CI/CD, DevSecOps, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and modern Agile or SAFe methodologies. Hands-on adoption of GenAI tooling to improve engineering productivity or quality is expected.
Preferred qualifications include experience in healthcare payer products (claims, EDI, eligibility, enrollment, benefits) in a health plan, TPA, or payer software company, and background in multi-tenant SaaS product development serving health plans or TPAs.
