Salary: USD 195,000 - 272,000 / annual
Vir Biotechnology is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing medicines for serious infectious diseases and cancer, with a focus on leveraging the immune system. The company has exclusive rights to the PRO-XTEN® masking platform for oncology and infectious disease applications.
The Director of Competitive Intelligence and Insights - Oncology will lead competitive intelligence activities across Vir Bio's early-stage clinical programs and research projects in solid tumor indications. This role serves as a strategic hub, directly supporting Clinical Development, Medical Affairs, Commercial, Program Management, Corporate Strategy, and Business Development functions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintaining and updating competitive landscape analyses and detailed competitor profiles for the company's therapeutic focus areas, delivering timely and actionable updates to stakeholders
- Synthesizing insights from external sources using modern tools including agentic AI to support organizational decision-making
- Communicating complex competitive analysis and objective insights to program teams and senior leadership to inform clinical, program, and corporate strategy decisions
- Covering major industry conferences, synthesizing abstracts, publications, and presentations to identify emerging scientific and clinical trends
- Collaborating cross-functionally to define strategic questions and address competitive intelligence needs
The ideal candidate brings an advanced degree in a scientific or engineering field plus 8+ years of competitive intelligence, strategy consulting, or buy-side experience in biotech/pharma. Required expertise includes solid tumor oncology knowledge, biologics modalities, and demonstrated excellence in scientific evaluation. The role requires strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and excellent communication abilities for presenting complex data to senior stakeholders. Experience with LLM-guided analyses, agentic AI oversight, and scientific databases (ClinicalTrials.gov, Cortellis, etc.) is expected. The position is based in San Francisco with an expectation of 4 days per week onsite.
