The Business Development Director role is critical to Anduril's expansion in Japan. You will partner with the Head of Anduril Japan to drive customer engagement with Japanese government ministries, the Self-Defense Forces, the Diet, and other government entities. This position requires deep expertise in Japanese government procurement and budget cycles, trading company roles, and domestic defense industry dynamics.
You will leverage comprehensive knowledge of Japanese Security and Defense policy—including the National Security Strategy, National Defense Strategy, and Defense Buildup Program—to identify gaps and opportunities where Anduril's products can enhance Japan's security posture. Using bilingual fluency (English and Japanese), you will engage customers at all levels to advance opportunities through the procurement cycle.
Key responsibilities include: driving growth and new business by developing and executing growth strategy in Japan; identifying and capturing new opportunities aligned with Japan's security requirements and competitive landscape; expanding existing business by partnering with Mission Operations teams to grow customer relationships; providing strategic communication and product advocacy by translating customer needs to internal teams and crafting compelling proposals; and representing Anduril to customers, partners, and the public as an ambassador for next-generation defense technology.
Required qualifications: professional fluency in English and Japanese; 10+ years' experience working with Japanese government and industry; experience with Japanese Ministry of Defense or other government ministries; robust knowledge of Japanese government procurement, U.S. Foreign Military Sales, and Direct Commercial Sales processes; ability to create and maintain relationships with senior-level Japanese customers; familiarity with Japanese culture; ability to travel up to 50%; authorization to work and reside in Japan; on-site presence required.
Preferred qualifications include experience with complex hardware-software systems, technical acumen in AI and autonomous systems, and extensive experience with the Japanese Coast Guard or Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry.
