Flare is a cybersecurity intelligence company focused on identity-centric threat detection. The company monitors the clear and dark web to discover exposed identities and high-risk external threats before cybercriminals can exploit them. Flare has been recognized as a Thriving Place to Work by the Culture 100 Awards and is in hypergrowth mode. As Director of People & Culture, you will serve as both a strategic business partner and the executor of P&C strategy into daily practice. You will report to the VP of Talent & Culture, contribute to major P&C initiatives and objectives, and act as an HR business partner to managers and directors across the organization. You will be responsible for policies, performance management, role and development programs, and will supervise and coach the P&C Coordinator. The role is approximately 30% strategic (operational planning, strategic projects, partnership with managers) and 70% operational (running and improving P&C processes). You must be comfortable rolling up your sleeves in a hypergrowth environment where processes evolve in real time. Key responsibilities include: - Contributing to operational planning and strategic projects in partnership with the VP - Acting as HRBP to managers and directors on team dynamics, performance, development, and organizational change - Developing and deploying P&C programs and frameworks - Maintaining policies and compliance across Canada, US, and UK jurisdictions - Managing the performance management cycle and tools - Maintaining and evolving role architecture, job descriptions, and levels - Supervising and coaching the P&C Coordinator on HRIS, payroll, benefits, recruitment, onboarding, office management, and employee support You should be equally strategic and pragmatic—someone who can define a plan in the morning and write the policy to execute it in the afternoon, knowing when to handle issues directly and when to escalate. Requirements: - 7+ years of HR/P&C experience, including significant experience as an HRBP or HR generalist in a rapidly evolving environment - Experience advising and coaching managers and directors with credibility and judgment to give honest counsel - Solid practical knowledge of labor laws and HR compliance, ideally across multiple jurisdictions (Canada, US, UK) - Experience designing and implementing programs with real impact on performance, growth, learning, and cultural alignment - Experience managing performance management processes and developing/maintaining role or career development frameworks - Experience leading, delegating to, and coaching team members - Exceptional written and oral communication skills across individual contributors, managers, executives, and external partners - High reliability and autonomy; ability to own work end-to-end and proactively follow up - Exceptional attention to detail and rigor with consistent track record of high-quality work - Systems-builder mindset; tendency to fix processes rather than symptoms - Comfort being both strategic and pragmatic in a small team where individual contributions are visible and valued - Impeccable ethics and discretion with confidential information - Based in Montreal with fluency in both French and English Ideal to have: - Experience in a hypergrowth SaaS or tech company - Experience with payroll or benefits administration across multiple jurisdictions - Experience contributing to annual operational planning or leading cross-functional projects - Experience with HRIS and performance tools (BambooHR and Lattice are assets) - Experience handling performance and development cases, including sensitive or complex situations - Experience managing HR compliance - Experience with event planning or office management - Strong comfort with technology and automation to reduce administrative work
