Neuralink is seeking a Dimensional Quality Engineer / Senior CMM Operator to serve as the measurement authority for the company's implant and robotic systems. This hands-on role owns the coordinate measuring machine (CMM) fleet—including bridge CMMs, optical CMMs, and portable arms (Zeiss, Hexagon, Romer, FaroArm)—and is responsible for programming, fixturing, calibration, and measurement uncertainty across all equipment.
Key responsibilities include: establishing and operating an Incoming Quality Control (IQC) workflow for purchased parts with AS9102 first-article reviews and independent CMM verification; performing first-article and in-process inspection on in-house machined precision components (flexures, housings, titanium/PEEK parts with sub-thousandth-of-an-inch tolerances); applying ASME Y14.5 GD&T rigorously to build defensible datum schemes and reproducible measurement routines; generating clean, reviewable inspection reports in PC-DMIS, Calypso, PolyWorks, or equivalent software; authoring and owning CMM operator training curriculum and certification programs to scale capability across the organization; partnering with Design, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Supplier Quality teams on tolerance stack-ups and fixture design before parts release; maintaining calibration, traceability, and gage R&R for measurement equipment; and visiting suppliers as needed to debug fit/form/function issues and accelerate corrective actions.
Required: 7+ years of hands-on CMM experience on bridge CMMs and portable arms in production or precision-manufacturing environments; strong CMM programming skills in PC-DMIS, Calypso, PolyWorks, Verisurf, or comparable software; deep working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 GD&T applied to small, complex, tight-tolerance parts; experience reviewing AS9102/PPAP first-article documentation and writing actionable NCRs; fixturing design and specification capability; clear written and verbal communication; and high ownership bias to action.
Preferred: background in aerospace, defense, medical device, semiconductor, or precision robotics; hands-on experience with CT/X-ray inspection, optical CMM, structured-light scanning, or laser trackers; demonstrated history of training operators and building certification programs; familiarity with ISO 17025, ISO 13485, FDA 21 CFR 820, or regulated-environment quality systems; and programming/scripting fluency (Python, VBA, DMIS scripting) for report automation and data integration.
Willingness to travel 10–25% between Austin, TX and South San Francisco, CA sites required.
