As Senior DevOps Engineer, you will own the company's Google Cloud infrastructure end-to-end, serving as the primary infrastructure engineer responsible for reliability, scalability, and operational maturity across the GCP environment.
Key responsibilities include:
**Infrastructure Ownership**: Design, build, and maintain Google Cloud infrastructure using Terraform, covering compute (GCE, GKE, Cloud Run), networking (VPC, subnets, firewall rules, VPNs/interconnects), storage, and IAM. Own Terraform module structure and remote state management with drift detection. Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure changes with plan/apply workflows and PR-based review gates. Enforce least-privilege IAM across projects and folders. Manage cost visibility and optimization through budgets, alerts, rightsizing, and committed use discounts. Build monitoring, logging, and alerting via Cloud Monitoring/Logging.
**Containerization & Kubernetes**: Assess existing workloads and produce prioritized containerization and migration plans. Containerize applications by writing and maintaining Dockerfiles. Design and provision GKE cluster architecture via Terraform, including node pools, autoscaling, ingress/load balancing, and private clusters. Migrate stateful services (databases, persistent volumes) with explicit rollback plans. Implement secrets management for containerized workloads using Secret Manager integration. Build CI/CD for container builds and Kubernetes deployments. Define and enforce Kubernetes RBAC and network policies.
**Operational & Cross-Functional**: Document infrastructure architecture, migration runbooks, and decision records. Partner with engineering on deployment needs. Participate in incident response and on-call rotation. Coordinate with security/compliance on infrastructure-layer controls.
Required qualifications: 5+ years in DevOps/infrastructure engineering with minimum 2-3 years hands-on production experience with GCP and Terraform. Demonstrated experience containerizing applications and operating Kubernetes (GKE preferred) in production. Experience migrating stateful workloads without data loss. Strong Linux, networking, and IAM/security fundamentals. Comfortable in a fast-paced, 5 days per week in-person startup environment in NYC.
Nice-to-have skills include Kubernetes observability tooling (Prometheus/Grafana, Datadog), experience taking existing production environments to full Infrastructure-as-Code coverage, and familiarity with policy-as-code enforcement (OPA/Gatekeeper).
