Upgrade's QA-Core team is seeking a Senior QA Automation Engineer to design and build test automation infrastructure, tools, and agentic solutions that increase engineering productivity across the organization. This is not a traditional product QA role—it's a platform engineering build role focused on creating scalable automation services.
You will work closely with product engineering teams to understand their automation needs, design services from scratch, deploy them to production clusters, and own their operation. The role emphasizes building robust, monitored, production-grade automation frameworks and leveraging AI agents to reduce friction in QA workflows.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and own the automation framework for functional and performance testing
- Build agents to automate existing QA/test workflows and reduce engineering friction
- Build, deploy, and operate applications and services that automation depends on
- Drive prototypes to completion: build timely demonstrations, gather feedback from end-user teams, and iterate through successive versions until robust and production-ready
- Identify gaps in existing frameworks and tools, then iterate toward solutions that fill them
Required experience:
- 5+ years building production software with demonstrated expertise in test infrastructure, test frameworks, developer tooling, and platform engineering
- Proven track record building agentic solutions and test automation frameworks from scratch—designed, delivered, iterated, and adopted by other engineers
- Daily proficiency with agentic coding tools: orchestrating multiple agents and reviewing agent-generated pull requests
- Hands-on experience with microservices, Kubernetes, and deployment lifecycle management
- Ability to independently transform ambiguous problem statements into scoped, defensible solutions
Core technologies: Java, Python, Kubernetes, Selenium WebDriver, Playwright, TestNG, Maven, Git, Jenkins, ArgoCD, SQL, Grafana, SumoLogic, Docker, Gatling, Claude Code, MCP servers.
