Rocket Lab is seeking a Development Engineer to join the Ion Propulsion team in Auckland, New Zealand. This role focuses on hands-on testing, development, and innovation of ion propulsion systems and components that power spacecraft and enable space exploration missions.
Key responsibilities include executing test activities for ion propulsion systems, developing test equipment and procedures to advance vehicle testing capabilities, proactively identifying and resolving quality issues and technical challenges, and creating thorough technical documentation. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams including designers, analysts, and technicians on anomaly resolution and design improvements. The role also involves developing and maintaining data processing and test automation code, and transitioning acceptance testing processes to production teams.
Required qualifications include a degree in engineering or physics with 1+ years of relevant industry experience, proven hands-on skills in building or testing mechanical or electromechanical components/systems, exceptional analytical abilities with meticulous attention to detail, and excellent communication skills. Desirable experience includes electric propulsion testing, vacuum systems, high voltage, particle beams, rocket engines, fluid components, spacecraft propulsion systems, Python programming for data manipulation, and instrumentation/sensors/data acquisition systems.
