Prefect builds automation platforms for an unpredictable world, combining orchestration and data infrastructure. In August 2026, Prefect and Dagster merged to create a unified ecosystem trusted by Fortune 500 companies and high-growth tech firms. Developer Success is the technical support function for Prefect's customers across both the Prefect and Dagster product lines. The mission is to resolve customer technical issues with minimal customer effort and prevent recurrence. You will diagnose and resolve technical issues in customer environments, owning each issue through resolution. You'll work across Prefect and Dagster installations, integrations, deployments, and the cloud and container environments they run in. Key responsibilities include: - Diagnose problems across Prefect and Dagster systems, finding the underlying root cause so your first response resolves the question and pre-empts follow-ups. Turn learnings into documentation, debugging resources, and tooling that deflect repeat submissions. - Take full accountability for root causes within product scope; issue principled refusals for out-of-scope issues while still providing customers a path forward. - Back every diagnosis with evidence and logic. Assume customers are experts on their own stack and ask for what you need to troubleshoot both sides of issues. - Provide complete, well-timed updates. Escalate when needed while remaining the customer's single point of contact with regular cadence updates. - Feed the product by filing reproducible issues and surfacing recurring failure patterns to Engineering and Product teams. You'll work the queue independently on day-to-day issues and own moderate-complexity problems end-to-end, including investigations across customer cloud environments. The team is investing in agent-based automation for routine support work, shifting engineering focus toward complex diagnosis and escalation. This role suits engineers wanting to build deep expertise in orchestration and data platform environments and apply it directly with customers. You'll work 09:00–18:00 CET and participate in 24/7 on-call rotations. QUALIFICATIONS Must have: - Python fluency at the level of reading and debugging others' code, not only writing your own. - Hands-on experience running workloads in at least one major cloud and in containers or Kubernetes, enough to troubleshoot a deployment you didn't build. - Experience with a workflow orchestrator (Prefect, Dagster, Airflow, or comparable) and strong interest in the data engineering space. - Track record of technical, customer-facing work: support, solutions engineering, developer relations, or similar. - Clear written communication to explain root causes to skeptical senior engineers and earn their trust. Nice to have: - Direct experience with Prefect or Dagster specifically. - History of open-source contribution in any project. - SQL and data warehouse familiarity. - Experience building support tooling or automation.
