1Password is seeking an Intermediate Developer to join its Open Source Team, focused on strengthening the company's open source posture and building developer tools for IDE integrations, including Agent Hooks and IDE plugins. You'll own features end-to-end—from planning through development, release, and customer support—working with a team that's thoughtfully integrating AI across the software development lifecycle.
The role requires professional software development experience with the ability to independently take reasonably scoped features from conception to release. You should have solid familiarity with modern development toolchains (Git, IDEs, terminal, debugging, testing, dependency management) and relevant programming languages. Strong written communication and documentation habits are essential, particularly for working in public repositories.
Key responsibilities include acquiring and maintaining deep understanding of your development toolchain; contributing new features, improvements, and bug fixes across codebases; ensuring high code quality through testing strategies, unit and integration tests, and thorough documentation; planning solutions ahead of coding and reusing existing patterns; participating in RFC/RFD reviews and providing thoughtful peer feedback; empowering customer support teams; and actively participating in team organization, refinement, and prioritization.
You should have a genuine interest in developer tooling, IDE and agent integrations, and/or open source community work. A security-conscious mindset aligned with 1Password's principles is critical. Bonus qualifications include prior open source contributions and familiarity with AI-enabled IDEs like Cursor or building editor/IDE extensions.
1Password is a market-leading enterprise password manager and Unified Access Management pioneer, trusted by over 180,000 businesses including Fortune 100 companies. The company has surpassed $400M ARR and earned a spot on the Forbes Cloud 100 for four years running.
