Payoneer, a global fintech platform founded in 2005, is seeking a Design System Tech Lead to lead the modernization of its design system into a scalable, AI-ready frontend platform. This is a platform ownership role focused on infrastructure rather than feature development.
You will be responsible for the technical direction and evolution of Payoneer's design system, owning component architecture, design tokens, theming, accessibility, and performance. Key responsibilities include improving developer and designer adoption by reducing friction and simplifying upgrades, making the design system machine-readable and tool-friendly to enable automation and AI-assisted development, and defining quality standards and governance for design system changes.
You'll work closely with product design, frontend teams, platform, and DevOps partners, mentoring engineers and contributing to frontend platform best practices. The role requires leading a core platform used across dozens of products, influencing developer velocity, UX consistency, and future AI adoption while focusing on long-term infrastructure rather than short-lived features.
Requirements include 7+ years of frontend engineering experience, strong experience building or leading a design system or UI platform, deep knowledge of React and scalable frontend patterns, and experience working in large multi-team environments. Strong communication and leadership skills are essential.
Desirable qualifications include experience with design tokens, Figma integrations, schema-driven UI systems, DevEx/CI/CD tooling, and AI-assisted development. The role is based in Israel with hybrid flexibility and is a full-time position.
