Alan is a prevention-focused health insurance company serving 1M+ members across Europe, with €800M+ ARR. The Design & Research (D&R) community is the group of designers and researchers behind Alan's member-facing experiences. As the company scales rapidly and AI transforms what's possible, Alan is hiring a Design Operations professional to help the D&R community move faster without compromising quality.
This is a builder role at the intersection of design operations, tooling, and AI. You will not be a designer or researcher yourself, but rather an enabler who helps the community perform better as the member base grows. You'll work closely with the D&R lead, community members, and cross-functional partners in engineering, Product Ops, and platform teams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Explore and test new AI tools and automations to identify those that genuinely save time or improve quality; collaborate with internal AI tooling teams to bring cutting-edge capabilities to design and research workflows.
- Build skills, agents, and automated checks that make design and research work more efficient, reliable, and higher quality.
- Maintain and upgrade the tools the community relies on; serve as the point of contact with Alan's platform and agentic teams.
- Improve how the team works by introducing better practices and rituals, elevating existing processes, and sharing learnings internally and externally.
- Own your roadmap: identify opportunities, prioritize solutions, set clear goals, track adoption and quality metrics, and iterate based on feedback.
You will help D&R maintain high quality standards while scaling, working in close collaboration with the community and leadership.
Requirements:
- Approximately 4 years of experience in ops, enablement, design ops, tooling, automation, analytics, program management, or similar roles.
- Hands-on experience automating work: you have replaced repetitive tasks with automations, internal tools, or AI workflows (no-code, low-code, or AI-based), either at work or in personal projects, and can articulate what you built and who benefited.
- Familiarity with AI tools: you have built or tested skills, agents, or automations, and care about reliability, not just demo-ready results.
- Comfort working with engineers: you can build things yourself, know when to escalate for production-grade work, and speak their language.
- Experience supporting a team or community through onboarding, rituals, events, or internal communications.
- Strong English communication for collaboration with an international team; French is a plus.
Nice to have:
- Experience in or alongside a design or research team.
- Familiarity with Figma and design systems.
Desired qualities:
- Builder and strategic mindset: you make progress with incomplete information, choose the simplest approach that works, and ship.
- Rigor: you set baselines and targets, improving with each iteration.
- Systems thinking: you see how people, processes, tools, and data fit together.
- Sound judgment: you frame ambiguous problems, prioritize effectively, and know what to drop.
- Clear communication: you keep people updated and explain your choices.
