Phonic is a product and research lab building the most realistic, human-like voice AI conversations. The company has re-architected the entire stack—from models to product—to create voice agents that understand context, respond emotionally, and perform agentic tasks with frontier intelligence. Customers include companies building voice-native AI products in customer support, healthcare, logistics, and recruiting. Phonic has raised over $30M from tier-1 VCs and operates a talent-dense, close-knit team of top-tier AI researchers, international olympiad medalists, and former founders.
As a Deployment Strategist, you will be the primary technical relationship for customers from deal kickoff through production go-live and beyond. You own the entire pre-sale and deployment journey, ensuring companies building on Phonic successfully integrate, launch, and scale their voice AI workloads. You'll sit between customer teams and Phonic's engineering and research teams, working closely with the people building real-time infrastructure, platform, and voice AI models.
Key responsibilities include: owning customer engagements end-to-end from pre-sale through pilot, production launch, and expansion; embedding with customer teams to advise on designing, configuring, and scaling voice AI agents; serving as the primary technical escalation point during onboarding (debugging API payloads, diagnosing latency, unblocking integrations); designing and running migration plans for customers moving from other voice providers; monitoring deployment health and leading business/technical reviews; and partnering with Engineering, Sales, and Marketing to translate field learnings into product feedback and go-to-market strategy.
This role requires someone who moves with urgency, is comfortable with ambiguity, and takes full ownership of customer outcomes. You won't write production backend code day-to-day, but you will guide technical deployments and advise customers on building production-grade voice products.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field from a top university, or equivalent hands-on experience
- 3+ years in product, engineering, consulting, or as a founder
- Strong customer-facing experience and consultative mindset; comfortable engaging with both customer engineers and executives
- Technical fluency: ability to read API documentation, reason through modern web and cloud architectures, and hold your own in developer conversations
- Clear, precise written and verbal communication and strong stakeholder management
- High velocity and high ownership; thrive in early-stage environments where playbooks are still being written
Nice to have:
- Prior experience at a top-tier consulting firm or early-stage startup
- Experience with enterprise customers or complex, multi-stakeholder deployments
- Familiarity with real-time streaming, telephony, or conversational AI platforms
- Understanding of LLMs, prompt design, or AI agent workflows
- Founder or consultant background
