Helsing is a defense AI company focused on protecting democracies through technological leadership in autonomous systems. As a Deployed Hardware Engineer (Rapid Prototyping Engineer), you will bridge mechanical design, electrical integration, and hardware iteration to translate complex concepts into flight-ready physical prototypes for advanced drone platforms. You will own the full build cycle from concept through field testing, working closely with design and test engineers. Key responsibilities include: designing, fabricating, and assembling flight-ready prototypes with complex folding structures and deployment mechanisms; modifying airframes and building custom electrical wiring harnesses; integrating and configuring flight control platforms (PX4, ArduPilot); planning and executing functional and lifetime test campaigns; and collaborating with cross-functional teams to surface integration risks early. You should have hands-on experience taking unmanned aerial systems or complex mechanical/robotic systems through full development cycles from concept to assembly to field testing. Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks/PDM or Siemens NX/Teamcenter) with structural validation techniques (FEA) and GD&T knowledge is essential. Strong workshop fabrication skills with composites, metals, 3D printers, and soldering are required. Practical experience integrating flight control platforms, payload electronics, and power distribution systems on UAVs or similar platforms is critical. You should be comfortable with incomplete documentation and evolving requirements, taking end-to-end ownership and applying sound engineering judgment. Nice-to-have skills include drone operation experience in field environments, Hardware-in-the-Loop testing, and advanced aerospace materials knowledge including carbon fiber layup and vacuum bagging techniques.
