Pyka is seeking a Deployed Flight Test Engineer to support the development and commercial deployment of autonomous electric aircraft. This role combines field engineering with customer support, positioning you at the intersection of aviation innovation and real-world operations.
You will be responsible for setting up initial missions at customer sites across multiple continents, training and supporting customers as they operate Pyka's autonomous aircraft, and evaluating aircraft performance in diverse operational environments. The role involves testing, validating, and deploying next-generation electric aviation technology.
After a two-month initial training period at Pyka's test facilities in Dixon or Victoria Island, CA, you will spend approximately 50% of your time deployed at customer sites for 3–5 week periods. A typical deployment cycle includes one week of recurrent training and preparation at Pyka facilities, three weeks deployed abroad, and three weeks of vacation/time off.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting flight tests and evaluating aircraft systems in real-world conditions
- Establishing standardized ground and flight operations procedures at customer sites
- Training customers on aircraft operation and maintenance
- Documenting performance data and providing feedback to inform product development
- Ensuring safety and regulatory compliance across deployments
- Collaborating with internal engineering teams and external customer organizations
This is a multidisciplinary role requiring strong written and verbal communication skills. You will interact with diverse stakeholders—from internal product teams to international customers—and play an instrumental role in standardizing operations and procedures across deployments.
Pyka manufactures autonomous electric aircraft for cargo transport and crop protection, serving customers across four continents with FAA-approved systems. The company designs and manufactures proprietary flight control software, avionics, high-power-density motors, motor controllers, batteries, and custom carbon-fiber composite airframes.
