Beacon Biosignals is transforming precision medicine for the brain through at-home EEG platforms for clinical development and diagnostics. The Datastore sits at the heart of Beacon's platform, serving as the centralized repository and GraphQL API for brain data collected from clinical studies and home sleep tests.
As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will work at the intersection of data platforms, customer needs, and applied problem-solving. You'll engage directly with external partners to understand their technical use cases, guide API integrations, and develop solutions that unlock value from Beacon's data platform. Internally, you'll collaborate with Datastore engineers, product managers, and scientific teams to translate partner needs into robust data models, features, and integration tooling.
Key responsibilities include:
- Working directly with external partners and customers to understand data needs, analytical workflows, and technical constraints
- Leading technical conversations with partner engineers and data teams on API integrations and data access patterns
- Designing, building, and shipping solutions on both Beacon's platform and customer platforms
- Developing internal tools, services, and queries to improve observability and troubleshooting
- Debugging production data issues end-to-end from customer reports through logs, pipelines, and databases
- Leveraging partner feedback to improve documentation, APIs, data models, and operational processes
You will write production application and integration code against a PostgreSQL-backed GraphQL API, with hands-on SQL work and feature development. This is a full engineering role held to the same technical bar as the core Datastore team, requiring strong coding and feature-design capabilities.
Required experience: 5+ years in backend, data, or data platform engineering with hands-on application development; 3+ years in customer-facing technical roles delivering solutions to external partners; strong PostgreSQL and SQL proficiency with production experience; hands-on experience designing and maintaining operational data models; demonstrated ability to work across the stack from data modeling to application code.
