Wayve is building an end-to-end AI platform for autonomous driving that enables vehicles to learn directly from real-world experience. The company is seeking a Data Science Manager to lead the Applied Methods Data Science team, which serves as a trusted partner to the Autonomy organization, turning experimental and observational analysis of real and simulated driving into evaluations and insights that help engineering teams progress toward customer commitments. In this role, you will lead a team of data scientists and work closely with stakeholders across Autonomy to balance customer needs, technical rigor, and delivery. Your responsibilities include: - Setting and aligning priorities with stakeholders across Autonomy, maintaining provisional three-, six-, and 12-month roadmaps that balance customer demand with team capacity. - Working with technical leads and senior engineers to review technical proposals and designs, maintaining a high bar for statistical rigor and evaluation fidelity. - Monitoring delivery status and cadence, surfacing schedule risks early, and managing trade-offs with customers. - Growing the team by hiring and onboarding data scientists, while investing in tooling and automation that enable the team to scale beyond headcount alone. - Guiding career-growth conversations, matching business needs with development opportunities, and building progression pathways. - Building cross-functional relationships that keep the team close to its customers and anticipate where support will be needed. Wayve operates a hybrid working model with two days per week in the office in London and focused time working remotely. The company is not a mature, fully-structured organization; much of how it works is still being written, and you will help shape it. The role offers meaningful equity, relocation support and visa sponsorship where applicable, learning and development budgets, and comprehensive benefits including health insurance, dental, enhanced maternity and paternity leave, retirement or pension, access to therapists, and wellbeing partnerships. REQUIREMENTS: - Three or more years' experience managing a team of five or more individual contributors. - Track record of growing and maintaining high-performing teams. - Strong data science foundation, including experience applying causal-inference methods in experimental or observational settings. - Strong working relationships with cross-functional stakeholders and customers, translating their needs into clear team priorities. - Experience setting technical direction and reviewing designs and proposals from senior engineers. - Comfort planning and communicating roadmaps, and managing delivery and expectations with demanding customers. - Comfort working asynchronously across time zones with cross-functional partners. - Deep curiosity about building something new and excitement to help define AV 2.0. VALUABLE ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE: - Building or scaling an applied or embedded data science function. - Simulation, offline evaluation, or measurement for machine-learning systems. - Practical machine-learning experience, such as PyTorch. - Taking research ideas into production. - Statistical rigor and experimental best practice. - Large datasets and distributed computing such as Spark or Hadoop. - Fast-moving technology companies and startups.
