Convene Hospitality Group is seeking a hands-on Data Platform Lead to join the Technology organization. This is a management role responsible for owning the data platform end-to-end, from architecture to business modeling, while managing a team of analytics engineers. Key responsibilities include: • Own the complete data platform architecture, reliability, and roadmap across Snowflake, dbt, and Fivetran. Migrate platform configuration from UI to Terraform for version control and reproducibility. • Rethink business modeling by transitioning from source-shaped marts to domain-oriented models aligned with how the business operates. Establish modeling standards, naming conventions, and code review practices. • Partner with Finance, Sales, Operations, and venue leadership to translate business questions into trusted models, metrics, and definitions. • Collaborate closely with product engineering teams on schema design, data contracts, and upstream changes to ensure platform and product evolution align. • Establish and own data quality and observability practices, including testing standards, data contracts, and reconciliation checks that alert owners before stakeholders discover issues. • Own the metrics and BI layer by rolling out BI tools, building semantic layers in Snowflake with certified metrics and shared definitions. • Implement conversational analytics and natural-language querying on Snowflake's native tools with appropriate evals and guardrails. • Govern data access, PII handling, and documentation across analytics and AI systems. • Lead, hire, and grow the analytics engineering team. Coach through code review, pairing, and clear expectations. • Remain hands-on: write dbt models, review PRs, debug pipelines, and prototype new approaches. The role is open to first-time managers with tech lead or mentoring experience, with direct coaching from a VP of Engineering. Experienced managers who want to continue building are also welcome. REQUIREMENTS: • 7+ years in data engineering, analytics engineering, or data architecture, including building modern data platforms in production • Hands-on experience using AI agents for multi-step work: building models, writing tests, debugging pipelines, documenting systems • Deep expertise in dbt and Snowflake, including project structure design, testing strategy, warehouse performance optimization, and platform-as-code management with Terraform or similar • Demonstrated experience moving teams from source-shaped models to business-shaped, domain-oriented marts with successful adoption • Built data quality and observability practices: tests, contracts, freshness monitoring, and trusted alerting • Experience building semantic layers and governed metrics; understanding of natural-language and agent-driven analytics accuracy requirements • Familiarity with managed ingestion tools like Fivetran and knowledge of their strengths and limitations • Leadership experience beyond individual work: tech lead on multi-person projects, mentoring engineers, running interview loops, or directing contractors/vendors • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences • High agency: sets direction independently, makes architecture decisions, and documents reasoning BONUS: • ThoughtSpot or similar search-driven BI tool rollout experience • Experience deploying autonomous agents with monitoring and improvement loops • Data modeling from Salesforce, NetSuite, or HRIS platforms • Data preparation for AI use cases: retrieval, agents, or feature pipelines • Background in hospitality, events, real estate, or multi-location customer-centric businesses
