As a Data Platform Engineer, you will own the foundational data infrastructure that powers every data-driven team at Mercor. This is a core hire on a newly formed Data Platform team, responsible for setting standards and best practices that other engineers build against.
Key responsibilities include:
- Architecting and maintaining data organization in Snowflake across multiple projects and teams, establishing clear ownership models
- Designing and implementing role-based access controls (RBAC) and row-level security policies, with automation for access provisioning/revocation as team membership changes
- Extending PII masking and data governance across all sensitive datasets
- Managing data migrations from vendor and internal sources into properly governed data homes
- Owning end-to-end vendor tooling: Fivetran connector health and cost optimization, Airflow/Astronomer pipeline reliability and on-call responsibilities, and Hex governance for company-wide dashboards
- Monitoring and right-sizing Snowflake warehouse spend for cost efficiency
- Building CDC/streaming ingestion capabilities and internal data platform tooling
Required qualifications:
- Hands-on Snowflake administration experience: roles, grants, warehouses, cost/performance tuning
- Proven experience designing data access and governance models at scale (RBAC, row-level security, PII masking)
- Comfort owning vendor tooling end-to-end, including on-call responsibilities
- Track record successfully migrating or re-architecting live production data systems without disrupting dependent teams
- Strong SQL and Python skills with infrastructure fluency to make independent technical judgments
- Production experience with CDC/streaming pipelines (Debezium, Kafka, Snowpipe Streaming), including delivery semantics, partitioning, and safe system cutover strategies
The role is based in San Francisco with in-person work five days per week. Mercor also has offices in NYC and London.
