Anthropic is seeking a Data Engineer to join the Data Science & Analytics team and build the foundational data infrastructure that enables analytics to scale across the organization. In this role, you will partner with Engineering, Product, and other teams to transform raw data into reliable metrics, reporting, and actionable insights. You'll ensure that teams have accurate metrics for consumer products from conception through launch, and you'll lead projects that enable self-serve analytics so teams can make data-driven decisions independently.
Key responsibilities include:
- Understanding and anticipating the data needs of partner teams, translating them into data models, reporting requirements, and technical specifications
- Defining, building, and managing dbt pipelines that convert raw logs into canonical datasets
- Establishing data integrity standards and SLAs to ensure timely and accurate data delivery
- Building reliable dashboards that track core metrics and distribute insights across the company
- Creating foundational data products, dashboards, and tools that enable self-serve analytics at scale
- Partnering with stakeholders to define and implement metrics and analysis for new and evolving consumer products
- Shaping Product team roadmaps from a data systems perspective
- Becoming an expert in the company's data models and data architecture
You should have significant experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar Data Science & Analytics role, ideally with a track record of partnering with Product leads to build and report on company-wide metrics. Required technical expertise includes:
- Proficiency building multi-step ETL jobs using tools like dbt, plus experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow and version control via GitHub
- Strong SQL and Python skills for creating accurate, clean data models
- Experience building reporting and dashboards in tools like Hex that serve multiple cross-functional teams
- A bias for action and judgment about when "good enough" beats perfect
- An end-to-end ownership mindset: you take full responsibility for solving problems, even when that requires work beyond your usual scope
- Comfort with ambiguity and a demonstrated ability to create clarity and drive forward progress
- Experience using AI to scale your own productivity and your team's without compromising work quality
Additional valuable experience includes building a data engineering function or similar capability from the ground up in an early-stage or fast-growing environment. A passion for Anthropic's mission of building helpful, honest, and harmless AI is important.
Minimum education requirement: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience in a field relevant to the role. Years of experience required will correlate with internal job level requirements. The role operates under a location-based hybrid policy requiring staff to be in office at least 25% of the time, though some roles may require more. Visa sponsorship is available.
