Hinge Health is seeking a Data Engineer II to join its data platform team in Bengaluru. You will build and maintain batch and streaming data pipelines that deliver accurate, timely data to analytics and product teams, supporting key business decisions and product features for members. The role involves designing dimensional data models and dbt transformations in collaboration with senior engineers, implementing data quality tests and monitors, and ensuring HIPAA and PII compliance across all data handling.
Key responsibilities include diagnosing and tuning slow or expensive pipelines and queries, supporting business stakeholders and data scientists with data model questions, translating business requirements into technical designs for pipelines and data models, and participating in on-call rotation for the data platform with runbook development. You will work with a team of experienced data engineers managing petabytes of data across a modern stack including Python, SQL, dbt, Airflow, PostgreSQL, Spark, Kafka, Flink, Databricks, and AWS services.
The company operates a hybrid model requiring 3 days per week in the Bengaluru office. This role involves regular collaboration with Hinge Health colleagues in San Francisco, with meetings scheduled during late evening India Standard Time to align with Pacific Time Zone working hours (8am–6pm PT).

REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field
- 3+ years of data engineering experience
- 2+ years processing and storing large-scale data using distributed systems, with knowledge of database design and data warehousing (star and snowflake schemas)
- 2+ years working with OLTP data stores (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis) and OLAP stores (Databricks, Snowflake, Redshift)
- 1+ years building data pipelines using Spark, Kafka, Airflow
- 1+ years designing and implementing data warehouse models (STAR, Snowflake) and developing ELT/ETL pipelines in data lake ecosystems
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Mastery of SQL and Python
- Working knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially explaining complex technical problems to non-technical stakeholders
- 1+ years experience with dbt
- Knowledge of streaming systems (Flink, Kafka Streams, Spark Streaming)
- Experience with managed data integration platforms (Fivetran, Estuary)
- Experience with AI technologies
